Former wrestler, world champion and opera music enthusiast - Władysław Góralewicz - wishes to endow the opera house with the collection of his sports trophies. Speaking on this occasion to a crowd of journalists, he fondly reminisces about his "glorious past". Learn the lifestory of this Galician boy and travel back in time to the end of the nineteenth century – the days of peculiar characters, roadside street markets and colorful circuses.

The main model for the character of Władysław Góralewicz was the real-life wrestler Zbyszko Cyganiewicz, a world wrestling champion who won titles in Greco-Roman and Catch American wrestling in the first half of the 20th century.

Although it was Bajon's debut, "Aria for an Athlete" garnered several awards right from the start. The director received a distinction for his debut at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdańsk and the International Arthouse Film Festival in San Remo.

Krzysztof Majchrzak, who played the titular athlete, was honored with the Zbyszek Cybulski Award – a prestigious distinction for young actors in Poland.
